MAJ RAMA RAGHOBA RANE, PVC

Maj Ram Raghoba Rane’s valiant actions during the 1947-1948 Indo-Pakistani War were pivotal in the Indian Army’s advance in the Rajouri sector. Despite being injured, he led his team in clearing hazardous roadblocks and mines under intense enemy fire, ensuring the successful movement of troops. His courage and determination earned him the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest military award for valor.

NAIK JADUNATH SINGH, PVC

Naik Jadunath Singh displayed exceptional bravery & selflessness during the Battle of Tain Dhar on 06 February 1948, when his post was attacked by a large enemy force. Despite being outnumbered, he led a determined defense, single-handedly manning a light machine gun after his comrades were wounded. His valiant efforts successfully repelled the enemy but cost him his life. For his extraordinary courage, he was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra.

Mention in Dispatches is a military honor recognizing distinguished service or bravery not warranting a gallantry medal. Originating from British military tradition, it was adopted by India    post-independence. It is awarded to personnel for commendable acts during operations, with the individual's name published in official reports "dispatches" by superior officers.
